Today is a sad day in the Murphy household. We got word that our wonderful canine friend, Queen, has gone to Heaven. My aunt and uncle got Queen when I lived with them during college and after a few days of warming up, she became a true member of the family. She was a very snuggly, kind, intuitive dog. When I was down, she would nudge my chin to help me be happy. She loved sleeping on the bed with me (and taking more room than a dog her size should have commanded). Once, when the basement was filling with smoke because of a problem with a dryer belt, she ran around barking to alert me to the danger. I was sad to leave Queen when I got married but she was never far from my heart.
After we got married, Andy and I loved when she'd come stay with us or we'd get to visit her. She traveled to Cleveland with us and stayed with our family numerous times while Brenda and Scott were out of town; we played together, snuggled together, and she provided countless laughs. She'd do this weird licking thing, smacking her tongue on her nose--very annoying but cute, too. She would whine and make a noise similar to a pig when she'd see a dog on television. She'd even run around the wall behind the television looking for the intruding dog. Once we tried to put a fleece dog coat on her and she put her legs out and would not move, as if saying, "I'm NOT going to be seen in this ridiculous coat!" There are so many funny and endearing Queen stories. Everyone who has met her has fond memories of their time with her.
I loved her nubby tail, her squeezy cheeks, and her soft ears. Whether or not it was true, her white fur always seemed a little softer than her brown fur. She was a solid pooch, perfect for snuggling on a cold, winter day.
I hope that as she drifted off into Doggie Heaven, she remembered our snuggles and how much I loved her. Rest well, sweet Queen. You'll be fondly remembered and missed greatly. We love you.
